It's Deja vu all over again as the Millers were off to a 4-0 start for the third or fourth time in recent years at the 2014 Roy Hobbs World Series in Fort Myers, FL but couldn't get it done late in the week. This is the second time that we've been bounced from this tournament with only one loss. The action started with a 19-2 win over Russia on Sunday morning follwed by an 11-8 win over the Crystal Lake Indians Sunday afternoon. Monday saw Rudy throw a 7 inning complete game shutout over the Chicago Dodgers in an 11-0 win. Tuesday the Millers defeated the Cincinnati Colt .45's 14-4 in 7 innings at Terry Park. Joe Perzel got the complete game victory without giving up an earned run. Thursday the Millers knocked off a tough Broward/Tallahassee Sharks team that had dropped down from the AAAA bracket, 7-5 at City of Palms Practice field. Rudy pitched well and kept the team in the game before Mueller came in and pitched two scoreless innings to get the win. MC came on to pitch a scoreless 9th and get the save. The tournament came to a close against the Sharks with a 9-6 loss in which we didn't play well. Their pitcher was very good and threw in the upper 80's and shut us down early. Welcome to the home of the Minneapolis Millers Baseball Team.  The Millers are a group of guys that play summer baseball for a variety of teams in the Twin Cities metro area.  They also come together for a few games during the summer as well as playing a full fall league schedule before they travel to Fort Myers, Florida to play in the Roy Hobbs World Series.  In past years they have played under the name of the Minnesota Saints but in 2003 there was a management shakeup that led to a name and uniform change.  The name was taken from the old minor league team that used to play at Nicollet Park in south Minneapolis.  To honor that team they have modeled their uniforms on that team's uniform from the early 1950's.

The old Millers team played in the American Association from 1902 to 1960 and spent most of their tenure with the Red Sox and Giants organizations.  Some notable stars that played for the Millers include Hall Of Famers Roger Bresnahan, Jimmy Collins, Urban 'Red' Faber, Bill McKechnie, George Kelly, Billy Herman, Ted Williams, Ray 'Dandy' Dandridge, Willie Mays, Zack Wheat, Rube Waddell, Hoyt Wilhelm, Monte Irvin, Orlando Cepeda and Carl Yastrzemski.  And the great Jimmie Foxx was a Millers coach in 1958.
